The 5 platonic solids belongs to the polyhedra, a spacial system of polygons.

Each side of a polygon is identically equal to the side of another polygon. The polygons are the sides, the sides are the edges and the vertices are the corners of the polyhedron.

The »tidiest« Polyhedra you call the Platonic Solids or Regular Polyhedrea.

The »untidiest« belongs to the Archimedean Solids or to the Stellated Solids.

There are 5 Platonic Solids:
• Tetrahedron or 4 field solid
• Hexahedron or 6 field solid (Cube, Dice)
• Oktaehedron or 8 field solid
Dodekahedron or 12 field solid
• Ikosahedron or 20 field solid

In nature you meets the platonic solids in different crystals (cobalt, copper ore, fluorite, pyrite - cube, oktahedron, dodekahedron forms). Also plankton especially the radiolarians show us the form of a cube, a oktahedron, a dodekahedron and a ikosahedron. With the viruses many own a protein-mantle which has the form of a icosahedron.
